Venus Mars Conjunction, 01-07-2023
On July 1, 2023, stargazers in Bengaluru, India, were in for a treat as two planets, Venus and Mars, were visible in the western sky just after sunset. At around 7:35 p.m, I saw the two planets, although the night sky was very cloudy.
The conjunction of Venus and Mars remained visible for about two hours after sunset. This planetary meeting was quite apparent in the night sky despite a nearly-Full Moon. Venus was incredibly bright. In addition, the Moon conducted its lunar business in another part of the sky. The planetary congregation was 3°33′ apart in the Leo constellation on this evening.
This event kicked off a month of mesmerizing celestial events including a super-bright Venus, the peaking of three back-to-back meteor showers, and more. It’s always exciting to witness such rare astronomical events and capture them through photography.
